Adobe has acquired Rilo, an Indian market intelligence startup, marking the company's second acquisition out of India following its 2023 purchase of AI video-synthesis firm Rephrase.ai.

The deal, reported by TechCrunch, was announced September 2, 2026. Adobe has not disclosed the purchase price, and no independent valuation has been confirmed.
Rilo, co-founded by Dhruv Jaglan and Georgi Boby, built AI tools for market intelligence — think competitive analysis, trend detection, and audience insight at scale. That's a different lane from Rephrase.ai, which specialized in AI-generated video from text and was folded into Adobe's video and marketing workflows after its 2023 acquisition. Together, the two deals sketch a pattern: Adobe is buying India-based AI teams that strengthen the data and automation layers underneath its creative products, not just the image- or video-generation surface that most creators interact with directly.
Two acquisitions from a single geography in three years is not coincidence. India has become a serious source of applied-AI engineering talent, and Adobe appears to be treating it as a deliberate pipeline rather than an opportunistic one-off. Rephrase.ai's integration added AI avatar and video personalization capabilities to Adobe Express and Adobe Experience Cloud. If Rilo follows a similar path, its market-intelligence layer could surface inside tools like Adobe Express or Firefly — potentially informing prompt suggestions, trend-aware style recommendations, or campaign-performance data that feeds back into the generation workflow.
For creators who use Adobe's AI image generation tools, the practical effect of acquisitions like this tends to arrive quietly: a new data-backed feature in a product update, a smarter content recommendation, a trend signal baked into a template. The Rephrase.ai deal took roughly a year to show up visibly in Adobe's products, so Rilo's impact is unlikely to be immediate.
Adobe has not said which product line Rilo's team will join, what the acquisition price was, or whether Rilo's existing enterprise customers will continue to be served. The market intelligence category is also broad — it covers everything from social listening to SEO analytics to competitive pricing data — and Adobe has not specified which slice of Rilo's capability it is most interested in. Until Adobe makes a product announcement, the practical effect on any specific creative workflow remains speculative.
What is clear is that Adobe's appetite for AI acquisitions has not slowed. The company has been under sustained competitive pressure from generative-AI-native rivals, and buying specialized teams is faster than building from scratch. For creators choosing between Adobe's ecosystem and alternatives, the model and tool catalog keeps expanding — but the most consequential changes from deals like this one often land in the enterprise and marketing tiers before they reach individual creators.
The open question is whether Rilo's intelligence layer ends up as a genuine creative aid — helping artists understand what styles or formats are gaining traction — or stays buried in Adobe's marketing-cloud stack where most image creators will never encounter it. Adobe's next product keynote will be the first real signal.
